Just in: Ondo State Political Crisis: Lawmakers Gears up to declare Aiyedatiwa as Acting Governor
From Our Correspondent
Ondo State has found itself at the epicenter of a burgeoning political crisis as the State House of Assembly prepares for an emergency session today. The focus of this extraordinary meeting centers around the absence of Governor Rotimi Akeredolu, who remains indisposed due to illness, prompting deliberations on appointing Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa as acting governor.
Governor Akeredolu’s continued recuperation at his private residence in Ibadan, Oyo State, has heightened political tensions and raised concerns about the state’s leadership vacuum.
Insider reports indicate a rift within the assembly, with a faction opposing the potential elevation of Aiyedatiwa.
When approached for comment, Mr. Olatunji Oshati, a lawmaker and Chairman of the House Committee on Information, acknowledged the scheduled assembly meeting. However, Oshati refrained from confirming whether Aiyedatiwa would officially assume the role of acting governor.
“There is indeed a meeting scheduled for today to address the current political situation, as directed by our national leadership,” stated Oshati.
“While there are speculations regarding Aiyedatiwa’s potential declaration as acting governor, I cannot preempt the outcome of the assembly’s discussions. We await the unfolding developments”, he added .
