Just in: Akwa Ibom state Commissioner of police dies after surgery in Lagos

The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara is dead .

Late police commissioner was said to have died at the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, Ikeja in the early hours of Thursday after a surgery operation.

He was said to have been suffering from prostate cancer which he went for surgery on Wednesday, but could not make it after operation, according to sources close to the family.

“We are very sad to inform you that our friend, brother, and family, the Commissioner of Police for Akwa Ibom State, Waheed Ayilara, is dead,” the family was quoted as saying.

Late Ayilara was formerly an acting Commissioner of Police in lagos in November, 2023, a former Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department after succeeding AIG Idowu Owohunwa.

The Police authority in Akwa Ibom State and the Force headquarters were yet to confirm his death in an official statement.
