It’s Parliamentary Function To Ensure Political Stability – Nwaobi

The Majority Leader and member representing Aniocha North Constituency in Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Engr. Emeka Nwaobi has said that part of the functions of the Parliament is to ensure political stability through effective laws and mediations.

Nwaobi gave this insight on Tuesday while responding to questions by newsmen who had accosted him on some of the things lawmakers should do aside making laws and over sighting projects.

The Majority Leader had responded by saying that over and above self political interest, it is the duty of Parliament to ensure that the political, economic and social stability of the nation is guaranteed.

Speaking on some of the contemporary issues like boundary disputes, kingship tussle and other matters that usually flame temper, Nwaobi said no nation can afford to have a Legislature that sits and watches the nation thrown into crisis when they are supposed to intervene irrespective of their political affiliations.

His words, “When it comes to making laws for the good of society, the Legislature is both legally, morally and duty bound to ensure stability in the interest of national security and unity.

“Our job in this aspect is sacrosanct; it is not negotiable whether to do the right thing at a critical moment that requires decisive and unbiased solution.

“If as Legislators we make bad laws in order to suit our interest, are we also forgetting that we are all members of the society where the law is applied and implemented?

“In Delta State, we have a number of laws that were made to promote peace, unity and security of our dear State. We will not rest on our oars in continuing to do what is right to sustain peace and cohesion amongst the ethnic nationalities, including groups and individuals.

“As far as this 8th Assembly is concerned, we are partnering with the People’s Governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori to enact laws that will promote the MORE Agenda of the government of the day, and by extension, ensure the happiness of all through economic growth and developmental sustainability”, Nwaobi assured.
