By Iyojo Ameh
Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Nigeria’s Minister of Interior, has declared his unwavering commitment to fortify Nigeria’s positive image on the global stage through a collaborative effort with the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM).
During the meeting, the Minister emphasized the critical role that NiDCOM plays in promoting a positive image of Nigeria internationally.
In a comprehensive discussion about the importance of wealth creation within the government, the Minister acknowledged NiDCOM’s role as a representative of “the nation’s positive image beyond our borders” and argued that it “deserves more extensive support than it currently receives.”
He noted that numerous Nigerian families depend on their relatives working abroad, and NiDCOM’s provision of welfare support to this group significantly contributes to upholding national integrity, security, and peace.
Moreover, the Minister highlighted the potential for a mutually beneficial partnership between the Ministry of Interior and NiDCOM. Taking inspiration from India, he stressed the necessity of shifting Nigeria’s focus from oil to a knowledge-based economy, which could lead to transformative changes.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman and CEO of NiDCOM, expressed her gratitude for the Minister’s generous commitment and assured that this support would inspire the commission to achieve even more in its new phase. She conveyed the greetings of Nigerians living in the diaspora, who hold the Minister in high regard as a dynamic and effective leader within the Ministry, and expressed their appreciation for his contributions.
The collaboration between the Ministry of Interior and NiDCOM is anticipated to play a pivotal role in enhancing Nigeria’s global reputation and delivering benefits to its citizens, both domestically and in the diaspora.
