“Insecurity Concerns Prompt Zamfara Governor to Urge Increased Troop Deployment,” Gov. Lawal Advocates to Chief of Defence Staff
Governor Dauda Lawal of Zamfara State has called for bolstered troop presence in the region due to escalating security threats.
During his visit to the Defence Headquarters in Abuja on Monday, Governor Lawal conveyed his apprehension to General Christopher Musa, the Chief of Defence Staff, regarding the resurgence of attacks in certain areas within the state.
In a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, Governor Lawal highlighted his distress over the repeated incidents of violence in Zamfara State.
“I am deeply troubled by the escalating insecurity plaguing Zamfara State.
He recounted a recent attack in Tsafe LGA, resulting in casualties, including a member of the Community Protection Guards (CPG). Governor Lawal emphasized the urgent need for additional troops in Zamfara, especially considering the redeployment of some officers to the Northeast.
“The shortage of personnel in Zamfara is alarming. It hampers agricultural activities, endangers lives, and emboldens criminals,” Governor Lawal asserted, urging swift action to restore peace and security.
Responding to the governor’s plea, General Musa commended Zamfara’s efforts in combating banditry. He assured Governor Lawal of plans to reallocate resources akin to strategies employed in Maiduguri.
“We acknowledge your dedication to combating insecurity. Our forthcoming conference with theatre commanders and stakeholders aims to address these distressing attacks,” General Musa affirmed.
