Insecurity: 7 IDP camps operated illegally for 7years uncovered in Nasarawa.

No fewer than seven Internally Displaced Person’s (IDP) camps illegally operated have been uncovered in Karu Local government Area of Nasarawa state.
The camps, investigation revealed has been in existence for more than seven years and being occupied by displaced person suspected to have escaped from North East part of the country.
It was gathered that the alleged displaced person’s were since offered a place of aboard by the authority of Karu Local government Council, provided with about 4 hectares of land for farming, established a beans market where the IDPs are marketing their products.
Addressing Journalists on the issue in Lafia, the Director General of the Nasarawa State Emergency Management Agency, Barrister Zachary Allumaga denied that the state government and NASEMA were not aware of the existence of the camps.
Allumaga said that Gov Abdullahi Sule would be visiting the IDP camps in Karu to interact with the displaced person’s and donate relief materials to them to cushion their hardship.
He expressed regret over the the councils inability to avail the Agency on the existence of the IDP camps in Karu in the last seven years without the knowledge of the agency.
“The governor of Nasarawa state, Abdullah Sule has arranged to fraternize with the IDPs said to be from the Northeast who have been part of the state for the past seven years and the Agency is not aware of.
“Some NGOs have built schools for the children, and the IDP are given four hectares land for farming. we will go into other areas that are extremely relevant to assist them to better their lives”, the DG declared
