An author of many books, has described injustice in almost almost every sector of the economy and institutions as the major cause of problems being faced by Nigerians in their country.

The author, Barr Matthew Okeke who spoke to selected journalists in Abuja while presenting a book he authored with the title, When Justice Sleeps, Burning Issues and Crises in Administration of Justice in Nigeria, said that he was motivated to write the book in order to throw more lights on the dangers of promoting injustice, so as to reduce the menace to the barest minimum in the country.

Although he said that people alleged that it is only in the judiciary that injustice is dispensed, but was quick to add that it is also done in other institutions in the country, adding that all hands must be on deck to address the ugly situation.

Barr Matthew Okeke said: “We have observed that in the morning practice of injustice, we discriminate on the basis of tribe, religion, region, position, standing, occupation profession, among others. We sacrifice merit and push away those that are qualified and competent, thereby promoting mediocrity.”

He continued: “We disregard laws established by rules and regulations, some times, even the valid judgements of courts of competent jurisdictions, and even the highest court of the land, thereby promoting impunity. This impunity has landed us where we are today and there are no doubt that we are unjust society; where people are discriminated against on the basis of their tribe, religion, region and sundry stratifications that have done more harms than good to us.”

Raising the alarm that their investigations has revealed that in Nigeria, individuals and the institutions therein have failed woefully in the area of injustice, Okeke further said that provided that judiciary has been seen as the last hope of the common man, the book, according to him would go a long way to assist members of electoral petition tribunal in the Nigeria.

The former Senate Committee Chairman on Judiciary, Human Rights and Legal Matters, Sen Umaru Dahiru on his own charged the stakeholders in the judiciary to ensure speedy dispensation of justice in the judiciary, saying that it will go a long way to redeem the image of the umpire. Beckoning the umpire to as a matter of fact, restore hope of the common man in the judiciary, he appealed to the stakeholders to save the profession from dying.

Similarly speaking, the representative of Ihiala Federal Constituency of Anambra state at the Federal House of Reoresentives, Abuja, Hon Chidi Ifeanyi Momah said that the legislature has been effectively preforming its duty of law – making, leaving its implementation and interpretation to the executive and judiciary arms of the government respectively. He informed that the legislature has made so many laws that would go a long way for the country
