HURIWA expresses concern over alleged political vendetta against Labour Party lawmaker, Amobi Ogah, by Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and Attorney General, Lateef Fagbemi.

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria,HURIWA claims that Onyejeocha, who lost to Ogah who is the member Representating Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency, Abia State in the 2023 elections, has been using her position and Fagbemi’s office to harass and intimidate Ogah with baseless charges, including false declaration, injurious falsehoods, perjury, and criminal defamation.

The rights group in a statement by the National Co-ordinator Mr Emmanuel Onwubiko says the accusations are baseless and fueled by a personal vendatta from Onyejeocua with alleged involvement of the
Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi

According to the the right group, Onyejeocha has refused to accept her electoral defeat and is using her former legal counsel.

HURIWA also condemns the involvement of the Nigeria Police Force, caccusing them of engaging in political conspiracy.

HURIWA urges an investigation into the AGF’s office activities and calls on stakeholders to uphold the rule of law and reject any misuse of public office for personal gain.

The group pledges to continue monitoring the situation and protecting Ogah from what it considers a politically motivated attack.
