The Bauchi State Police Command has taken a housewife, Khadija Adamu, into custody following the alleged beating of her stepdaughter, Hafsat Garba, aged 5, in the Kandahar area of Bauchi metropolis.

The incident came to light during a press conference held by Commissioner of Police, Auwal Musa Muhammad, as part of a series of arrests made by the command.

According to Commissioner Muhammad, the tragic incident occurred on September 28, 2023, when Abdulaziz Adamu reported that Khadija Adamu had assaulted the young girl around 4:00 pm.

Police swiftly responded, transporting the injured victim to Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital (ATBUTH) Bauchi, where she was subsequently pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the motive behind the attack was an alleged accident that spoiled the victim’s clothing, leading to a violent confrontation. The 18-year-old suspect confessed to the crime during interrogation.

The Commissioner of Police emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, and once completed, Khadija Adamu will be charged accordingly.

In another incident reported on September 27, Jibril Sarkin Ruwa alerted the police to an attempted homicide in Kadalen Kanawa village, Warji. The suspect, Dayyabu Yusuf, 39, from Tsangayan Jada, Jama’are LGA, allegedly lured his victim, Faruku Faisal, into the bush and attempted to strangle him with a rope. Fortunately, the victim managed to escape and raised the alarm, leading to his rescue by nearby residents.

A police team, led by CSP Ahmed Buba, swiftly arrested Dayyabu Yusuf. During questioning, the suspect admitted to attempting culpable homicide but denied any ritualistic intent, stating that he had a personal dispute with Mallam Faisal and sought revenge against his pupils (Almajiri).

While a search of Yusuf’s residence yielded no incriminating evidence, the investigation into the case continues. Once concluded, he will face charges in accordance with the established offenses.

These two cases serve as a reminder of the importance of prompt police action and thorough investigations in ensuring justice for victims of crime in Bauchi State.
