A group under the auspices of United Benue State Pensioners Support Group for Alia/ Ode in collaboration with the Concerned Pensioners Benue State chapter has disassociated their groups from a planned protest to be declared by the state leadership of Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, led by comrade Michael Vembe.

State coordinator of Benue United Pensioners comrade Amough Abenga and state Chairman Benue Concerned Pensioners A.
O Akosu made their position known to the public after it’s congress meeting held at Eunice Resort Center Makurdi during a chat with journalists.

The two groups accused the comrade Vembe led NUP leadership of playing politics with the lives of pensioners in the state.

According to the groups, the Michael Vembe led leadership did not embarked on any industrial action when the immediate past administration failed to pay pensions and gratuities for many years to retirees at the state and local government levels amongst many pending demands, arguing that comrade Vembe lacks moral support of members to embark on such an action especially now that the present administration has remembered the retirees who were once referred to as dead people.
The groups who described such contemplation as inimical to the high expectations of pensioners following the good beginning of the Alia led government concerning pension matters and gratuities, urged their members to stay away from the planned industrial action.
