Governor Ododo Congratulates Nigerian Tribune on 75th Anniversary

Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has felicitated with the management and staff of the Nigerian Tribune as the iconic newspaper celebrates its 75th anniversary. Governor Ododo praised the media organization for its steadfast dedication to truth, transparency, and accountability over its seven-and-a-half decades of service to the nation.

In a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Ismaila Isah, the Governor commended the Nigerian Tribune for its pioneering role in promoting responsible journalism.

He described the newspaper as a symbol of integrity and professionalism that has shaped public narratives and held governments accountable since its inception in 1949.

“For 75 years, the Nigerian Tribune has distinguished itself as a torchbearer of ethical journalism, setting the agenda for truth, balance, and objectivity,” Governor Ododo stated. “Its unwavering commitment to transparency has not only endeared it to millions of readers but has also strengthened Nigeria’s democracy and governance.”

The Governor highlighted the critical role of responsible journalism in sustaining democracy and promoting the rule of law. He praised the Nigerian Tribune for standing firm against the tide of fake news and misinformation, maintaining its reputation as a credible source of factual reporting even in challenging times.

Governor Ododo expressed confidence that the 75th anniversary would inspire the newspaper to continue its legacy of ethical journalism. “This milestone should encourage the Nigerian Tribune to sustain its mission of informing, educating, and empowering Nigerians, which are vital components of a stable and thriving democracy,” he said.

Founded on November 16, 1949, by Chief Obafemi Awolowo and his wife, Hannah Dideolu, the Nigerian Tribune is recognized as one of Nigeria’s oldest and most influential newspapers. Over the decades, it has played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s sociopolitical evolution, becoming a trusted voice in the media landscape.

Governor Ododo concluded by commending the vision of the newspaper’s founders and celebrating the contributions of its leadership, past and present, in advancing journalism excellence in Nigeria.
