GIF mourns Ohanaeze Ndigbo President, Iwuanyanwu

An Igbo socio cultural organization, Greater Igbo Forum (GIF) Worldwide, has lamented the death of
the President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyawu, describing it as one death too many.

A statement by its president, Amb Lois Jonathan describes the death of the Ohanaeze chieftain as a great loss not only to the Igbo race but Nigeria in general.

It decries the death of the octogenarian especially at a time his leadership has been pursuing peace, prosperity and harmonious coexistence the Igbo people with their neighbours.

The group also lamented his passage at a time it is planning a security summit that will proffer solutions to insecurity ravaging the region.


It recalled that the late Ohanaeze president gave his blessings to the idea before his demise.

Recall that Iwuanyanwu died on Thursday, July 25, 2024, after a brief illness at the age of 82 years.

His son, Jude Iwuanyanwu, confirmed the death of the elder statesman in a statement.

“The Iwuanyanwu family of Umuohii Atta, in Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State announces the demise of our patriarch, Engr Chief Emmanuel Chukwuemeka Iwuanyanwu-Ahaejiagamba Ndigbo,” the statement read.

“Chief Iwuanyanwu before his death was President General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo worldwide and President of Owerri Peoples Assembly.”

Iwuanyanwu is survived by his wife, Lady Princess Frances Iwuanyanwu, many children and grandchildren.

The statement says that the burial details will be announced later by the family.
