A serving female member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), identified as Grace Chalya Silas, was tragically stabbed to death by as-yet-unidentified assailants suspected to be armed robbers.

The horrific incident occurred in Kaduna State on the morning of October 18, 2023.

Grace Chalya Silas, a recent graduate of the University of Jos, had been serving her country through the NYSC program when she met her untimely demise.

The details surrounding the incident remain unclear, as investigations are ongoing.

She was reportedly killed and robbed while engaging in her morning jog, a routine activity she had been pursuing.

As news of her tragic death spread, friends and former course-mates took to social media, particularly Facebook, to express their grief and condolences.

Comfort Elisha, one of her friends, expressed the collective sorrow felt within the University of Jos community, saying, “No na. What is really happening to Jossite and the Special Education department? We haven’t finished mourning Kekefas Emmanuel, and now it’s Chalya, brutally killed in Kaduna during her morning jogging while serving her fatherland. May your killers know no peace, Chalya. This is too much to bear.”

Another friend lamented the unpredictability of life, pondering the meaning of existence and the tragedy of Chalya’s sudden departure. “What is life all about? Struggle and just be killed by anyone while you go for morning jogging? Or you sleep and don’t wake up? What is life? What is life? What is life? Chalya, you left a big wound that will take a while to heal. The people behind your death shall know no peace. It’s hard to say goodbye. But rest well with the Lord.”
