FCTA Impounds 69 Vehicles in Ongoing Clean-Up Operation for Safer Abuja

In a concerted effort to enhance safety and cleanliness in the Federal Capital, the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has seized 69 vehicles for various infractions.

The operation, executed by the FCT Combined Security Task Force, targeted illegal activities across Abuja.

Mr. Abdulatef Bello, Director of the FCT Directorate of Road Traffic Service (DRTS), highlighted the significance of these seizures in ensuring the security of lives and properties within the city.

Offenses leading to impoundment included incorrect parking, operation of rickety vehicles, number plate violations, and vehicles suspected of being involved in “one chance” operations, among others.

Mr. Bello reiterated the FCT Administration’s unwavering commitment to maintaining a clean and orderly city. He announced that the owners of the impounded vehicles would face prosecution in the FCT Mobile Court, situated within the DRTS premises. Additionally, three vehicle owners suspected of being involved in “one chance” operations will be handed over to the police for further legal action.

The prevalence of “one chance” operators in the city has raised concerns about the effectiveness of the mass transportation system. This issue prompted the FCTA to intensify efforts to address transportation deficits.

Mr. Peter Olumuji, Secretary of the Command and Control Unit at FCTA, showcased a sharp object seized from one of the suspected “one chance” operators. He urged road users to prioritize painted taxis for their safety and revealed ongoing initiatives to tackle the transportation challenges faced by the city.

Mr. Mukhtar Galadima, Director of the Department of Development Control at FCTA, attributed the rising criminal activities in the FCT to indiscipline.

He emphasized the importance of sensitizing road users about the risks associated with unofficial taxis, encouraging residents to avoid unpainted vehicles and those lacking proper number plates; stating that the FCTA remains committed to fostering a safer and more secure environment for all residents and visitors to Abuja.
