ENERGY TRANSITION: A MUST-ACHIEVE PLAN – DG

The Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) Dr Mustapha Abdullahi has reaffirmed the resolve of the commission to harness the country’s potentials in the field of energy for the greater good of the country.

He made the pledge at a roundtable discussion on renewable energy and related issues with Vice President Kashim Shettima on friday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.

During the discussion which also had the Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Chief Uche Geoffrey Nnaji, Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum,Hope Uzodimma in attendance, Abdullahi
noted that the task ahead was already defined.

“Already, we have sprung into action since assuming office barely a month ago. My management team and I understand the enormity of the job at hand and we cannot afford to let down not only Mr. President but the entire country.

“We have to prove to Nigerians and indeed the rest of the world that Nigeria can do it. And we will do it. That is a task we are committed to give it our all.

“The energy sector is large with a huge potential to serve as major catalyst for Nigeria’s economic revival. This is the focus under my leadership – to harness the potential in the energy sector for the greater good of the country and its people, and in line with President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope agenda.

“We are working round the clock, leaving no stone unturned in ensuring this comes to reality.” Dr. Mustapha concluded.

Earlier, the Vice President had reiterated President’s plan to drive the economy using energy as one of the major catalysts to economic revival and growth.

He also affirmed the significant role ECN is expected to play as the lead agency for the Nigeria Energy Transition Plan as well as the onerous tasks on the shoulders of the Director-General of the agency.

In another development, Dr Abdullahi joined a delegation from Kogi state led by Governor Yahaya Bello and which also included Governor-elect Ahmed Usman Ododo to formally pay a thank-you visit to Vice President Shettima in the aftermath of the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the recent Gubernatorial election in the state.
