At the end of the collation of results from the Edo State gubernatorial election on Sunday night, Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been declared winner with a substantial lead of 44,393 votes over the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

The formal declaration of results from all 18 local government areas of the State was made at the INEC Collation Centre in Benin City.

The APC garnered 291,667 votes and secured victory in 11 LGAs, while the PDP received 247,274 votes, triumphing in seven LGAs.

The election, held on Saturday, September 21, has been marked by a variety of responses and a series of allegations.

Both the PDP and Labour Party (LP) candidates have expressed doubts about the transparency of the electoral process, citing allegations of electoral irregularities.

The PDP, in particular, has accused the APC of manipulating votes, alleging that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) fabricated votes for the APC in certain critical areas with the assistance of security personnel.
