A stray dog allegedly scavenging for food has discovered an abandoned baby boy in a forest in Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The infant, reportedly left tied in a plastic bag, had been in the forest for two days before being found by the canine.

According to a reliable source, the stray dog carried the baby across a busy road and placed it in a visible area, seemingly hoping for someone to notice and provide assistance.

“The dog found the baby in a plastic bag in which he was abandoned in the forest.

From what we saw, the baby may have been abandoned for about two days before the dog discovered it,” the source stated.

The baby is said to be in stable condition and is currently receiving care.

A video circulating online captured local midwives cleaning the infant while expressing outrage at the perpetrators of this appalling crime.

The women, joined by a male voice in the video, expressed disbelief at the act of abandoning a child after carrying him for nine months. They called on anyone facing such circumstances to seek help rather than resorting to abandonment.

Efforts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Tochukwu Ikenga, for comments on the matter were unsuccessful as his mobile line was unreachable at the time of filing this report.
