Celebration after sign out by students of IMAP banned in Nasarawa

Authority of the Isa Mustapha Agwai Polytechnic, Lafia has banned students of the institution from celebrating their graduation after signing out.

The move is one of the security measures put in place by the authority of the institution in it’s deliberate move to safeguard the students and the institution.

To enforce the ban, tighter security system have been introduced to ensure strict compliance with the directive to maintain public order and safety of lives and properties of general public.

The directive which was contained in a circular issued on Friday, after an Emergency Management Meeting, explained that the Management of the Polytechnic will not hesitate to deal with erring students that would be found disregarding the directive.

According to the directorate of public Relation and protocols, any student found violating the order or seen showing evidence even on social media in the name of Celebration after sign-out would no be spared.

Similarly, the authority of the Nasarawa State University ( NSU) , Keffi have announced the Suspension of the student Union Government elections as the VC Calls For Calm.

The Vice-Chancellor Professor Sa’adatu Hassan Liman announced the suspension when she addressed the contending aspirants of the Students Union Government in the Senate Chamber of the University on Thursday 5th September 2024.

Professor Sa’adatu who expressed management’s displeasure over the outcome of the inconclusive students elections said that the move to suspend further activity on the elections was taken to allow for frayed nerves to be calm and forestall any perceived breakdown of law and order.

The Vice-Chancellor stated that an investigative committee will be set up to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fracas that disrupted the smooth conclusion of the elections. She further assured that security agencies are also working round the clock to ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order in the school. She urged the aspirants to address their numerous supporters on the need to maintain peace and order in the University.

In their separate responses, the two contending aspirants Osome Babangida and Ridwan Ahmed Barade while apologising for the unruly behaviour of some of their supporters assured the Vice-Chancellor and Principal Officers of the University of their commitment to maintaining peace and order in the University and to call their respective camps to order.

Present at the meeting were Principal Officers of the University, the Dean of Students Affairs and Staff members of the Deanery. Others are Exco of the Students Union Government and members of the Independent Electoral Commission IELCOM.

It would be recalled that the Students Union Election into political offices was conducted in the various campuses of the University on Wednesday 4th September 2024.
