Breaking: Over 40 People Trapped in a Collapsed Two Storey Building in Abuja

No fewer than over 40 people have been confirmed trapped in a two storey under construction which collapse on Thursday afternoon in Gwarimpa area of Abuja.

While confirming the incident, Director, Development Control, Federal Capital Territory Administration ( FCTA), Muktar Galadima said that rescue operation was ongoing with combined team of several agencies, and that about 7 persons have been rescued and taken to hospital.

He said that while no casualty had been confirmed, several workers were still trapped on the rumbles of the ill-fated building.

The Coordinator, Abuja Metropolitan Management Council ( AMMC) Umar Shuaibu said that while the council won’t appropriate blame to anybody, but that investigation will commence immediately to ascertain both the remote and immediate cause of the collapse.

According to an eye witness, John Edwin said the workers in the site, especially laborers conveying blocks to the top, were over 40.

He claimed to have lived in the area for many years, and that he has always known the place to be a reserved green area.

Edwin urged relevant authorities to call the management of Federal Housing Authority to question, for illegally allocating Green areas to commercial complex.

It was gathered as at the time of filling this report that two people have been confirmed dead.
