With less 2 months to the 2023 general elections in Nigeria, about 17,299 members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) have defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Sokoto State.

Investigations revealed that the members on Sunday in Silame Local Government Council renounced their membership of the APC and moved into PDP, with pledges of loyalty to their new party.

The defection on Sunday was in support of Saidu Umar, the PDP governorship flag-bearer’s campaign in the Silame.

During the campaign, Umar reeled out the life changing projects embarked upon by the administration of governor Aminu Tambuwal in the State and assured the electorate of his determination to key into the development strides initiated by the Tambuwal administration, if elected as governor next month.

He specifically promised to execute the Rundi-Katami-Silame road project for the benefit of the people and further pledged to look at the issue of the Surame Monument to enhance the revenue generation drive of not only the local government but the state as a whole.

The incumbent governor and former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal will end his second tenure in May this year.

Sokoto is politically a Peoples Democratic Party State, with a strong presence of the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by the former governor and Senator, Aliyu Magatakarda Wammako.
