Bills To Establish S/W, N/C Devt Commissions pass Through 2nd Reading

Senate in plenary passed for second reading, bills for establishments of the South West, and North -Central Development Commissions.
The bill for establishment of North Central Development Commission was presented by Senator Sani Musa.
Senator Sani in his presentation said the bill was designed as a catalyst to develop the potential in the North Central and address the gap in infrastructural development of the region.
Senator Gbenga Daniel of Ogun state who presented the South West Development commission Bill on behalf of the south West senators said the bill was first read on Aug 1, 2023.
He said the bill essentially aims to establish a commission for the South West region that would be charged with responsibility to receive and manage funds allocated by the Federal Government.
He said the funds would be used for construction, reconstruction and rehabilitation of roads, houses and other infrastructural damages suffered by the region.
He said there was need to tackle the ecological problems and any other related environmental or developmental challenges in the South West states.
President of the Senate, after second reading of the bills separately referred the two bills to the Committee on Special Duties for further legislative inputs and return back to plenary in four weeks.
