In a recent interview with the BBC Hausa Service, Atiku Abubakar, the former Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election, hinted at the possibility of throwing his support behind his Labour Party counterpart, Peter Obi, in the 2027 presidential election.

Speculations arose following a closed-door meeting between Atiku and Obi, fueling talks of a potential merger between opposition parties ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Atiku confirmed these discussions, stating, “We can merge to achieve a common goal.

So, it’s possible and nothing can stop it if we so wish to achieve that.”

Atiku expressed his willingness to support Obi if their party selects him as the presidential candidate for the next election.

He emphasized his commitment to abide by the decisions of the party, stating, “I have said repeatedly and I even said it before the 2023 general elections that if PDP decides to zone the presidential ticket to the South or South-East specifically, I won’t contest it.”
