The Appeal Court sitting in Lagos has ruled in favor of Thaddeus Atta of the Labour Party, reinstating him as the duly elected member of the House of Representatives for the Eti Osa Federal Constituency.

This verdict comes after the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal previously declared Atta’s election victory void in a ruling held at Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos state.

The tribunal’s prior order had called for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a supplementary election at specific polling places within 90 days.

However, the recent ruling by the Appeal Court has overturned this decision, deeming the original elections as conclusive.

This legal battle pitted Nigerian singer and actor Bankole Wellington, popularly known as Banky W and representing the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Ibrahim Babajide Obanikoro. Both Banky W and Obanikoro had filed petitions contesting the election results.

The Appeal Court’s verdict, which reinstates Thaddeus Atta as the rightful House of Representatives member for Eti Osa Federal Constituency, has not only reversed the previous outcome but also validated Atta’s initial victory.
