A group of Northern politicians, spearheaded by Dr. Haruna Garus Gololo, has vehemently opposed Abdullahi Ganduje’s proclamation within the All Progressive Congress (APC) that there will be “no vacancy” in the 2027 presidency.

The declaration, made by Ganduje, has been labeled as self-serving and not reflective of the wider sentiment within the party, according to Gololo and his allies.

At a press briefing held in Abuja, Gololo and his group expressed their discontent with Ganduje’s stance, citing various grievances with the current administration under President Ahmed Bola Tinubu.

Gololo accused Tinubu’s government of failing to deliver tangible results, pointing out alleged shortcomings in ministerial appointments and economic policies.

Specifically, Gololo criticized the competence of Tinubu’s appointed ministers, with the exception of a few, such as the Minister of Health and the FCT Minister. He lamented the perceived sidelining of Vice President Kashim Shettima, attributing it to Tinubu’s centralization of power within the presidency.

Moreover, Gololo highlighted what he described as misallocation of resources, citing examples like the Calabar Coaster contract while crucial infrastructure projects like the Abuja-Kaduna road remain neglected. He emphasized the disillusionment felt by Northern voters who had supported Tinubu, labeling their votes as a “curse” due to the alleged failure of the administration to address their concerns.

The group also condemned Tinubu’s recent speech in Riyadh regarding the removal of fuel subsidies, viewing it as detrimental to the welfare of Nigerians, particularly those in the North who are facing fuel shortages. Additionally, they criticized the Minister of Power for imposing increased electricity tariffs without corresponding improvements in service delivery.

He also reiterated the group’s commitment to speaking truth to power and expressed readiness to confront any challenges, including arrest or death, in their quest to hold the government accountable.

While acknowledging Gabriel Suswam’s criticism of Tinubu’s administration, Gololo emphasized the need for transparency and accountability within the APC, signaling potential rifts within the party as it navigates the road to the 2027 elections.
