ACCI President Reacts To Independence Day Broadcast By President Tinubu

In light of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Independence Day broadcast, Chief Emeka Obegolu, President of the Abuja Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI), has called upon the government to implement initiatives that foster friendly business policies, particularly for the Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) sector, which is vital for Nigeria’s economic growth.

Chief Obegolu, congratulated Nigerians and the business community in the Federal Capital Territory and surrounding areas, emphasizing the crucial role of SMEs in driving economic development.

He urged all levels of government to adopt lasting measures to address the challenges faced by the business sector, stating that without a thriving SME sector, Nigeria’s economic growth will continue to stagger.

He highlighted the need for policymakers and stakeholders to prioritize the interests of the business community by providing essential infrastructure and creating an enabling environment adding that the current economic situation is not conducive for entrepreneurs, and immediate action is required to support their efforts.

Addressing taxation, Chief Obegolu stressed that it is imperative to revise tax policies to ensure that local producers are not overburdened, which can stifle their growth.

“As a foremost Chamber of Commerce, we are deeply committed to the development of the SME sector, which we consider the engine of our economy. We urge the government to take decisive steps that will enable our SMEs to compete on a level playing field with their counterparts in developed countries.”

Also, Chief Obegolu, SAN, PhD, encouraged the youth to embrace skill acquisition and entrepreneurship, highlighting its importance for personal empowerment and economic contribution. “Skill acquisition is key to becoming self-sufficient and creating job opportunities for others,” he stated.

As the leader of the Organized Private Sector in the FCT and its environs, Chief Obegolu, SAN, PhD, reaffirms the ACCI’s commitment to advocating for policies that nurture and strengthen the business landscape in Nigeria.
