ABU Alumni Association Holds Annual Lecture, Award And Dinner Night

The Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Alumni Association has held its 2024 Annual Lecture, Dinner and Award Night.

On the occasion held in Abuja, the Keynote Lecturer and Madakin Zazzau, Mallam Muhammadu Munir Jaafaru said the roles of Alumni Associations in advancing University education system cannot be overemphasized.

Mallam Jaafaru therefore stressed the need for Alumni Associations to always compliment the efforts of Government towards developing the nation’s education sector.

In a remark, the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, ABU Zaria, Professor Kabiru Bala commended the contributions of the Institution’s Alumni Association towards the progress of the University over the years.

Professor Bala said the support of the Association most especially in some project execution in the University’s main campus has gone a long way in reducing challenges of acquiring education by students and improve their wellbeing in the Institution.

While urging the Association not to relent in its efforts in assisting its Alma mater, the Vice Chancellor called for more public private sector collaboration in developing the country’s education sector.

Also speaking, the Royal Father of the Day, His Royal Highness, Dr Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, the Obi of Onitsha and Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University stressed the need for more funding of the nation’s education sector in line with the international standard.

The Traditional Ruler used the occasion to call on Scholars in the country to use their wealth of knowledge in advancing technological breakthrough and economic development of Nigeria.

Earlier, the National President, Worldwide, ABU Alumni Association and Barden Kotangora, Mallam Adamu Mamman Kontagora said the Association has over the years constructed hostel accommodation, roads, flyover and provided shuttle buses to ease transportation system among students of the University.

While expressing concern over electricity bills presently incurred in the Institution, Mallam Mamman Kontagora stated that the Association would map out ways of intervention towards Alleviating the burden on the Institution.

The National President who explained that Government alone cannot fund education reiterated the commitment of the Association towards educational development’ in the University.

In a goodwill message, the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Dr Tajudeen Abass promised continuous legislation that would reposition Nigeria’s education sector and make graduates of higher Institutions employers of labour.

Highpoint of the event was presentation of Awards to Distinguished Nigerians who have over the years supported the Association and contribute their time, energy and resources to the progress and development’ of education and other vital sectors in Nigeria.
