38 women protesters to pay N500, 000 as court reviews bail condition in Nasarawa

38 women protesters arrested by the police for alleged Conspiracy, Unlawful Assembly and public Disturbance have been told to pay the sum of N500, 000 as prerequisite for their release from detention.

It would recalled that the Nigeria Police had on January. 19, 2024 arrested the protesters for allegedly blocking Lafia/Jos road after the Supreme Court judgment that affirmed the victory of Gov.

Reviewing the bail condition in Lafia, a Magistrate Court sitting in Lafia Wednesday review the bail condition of the 38 protesters arrested women, the Magistrate in charge of the court, Mohammed Abdullahi-Lanze reviewed the bail conditions from N2m to N500, 000 each with a surety while rulling on the application filed by counsels to the defendants.

The Magistrate who relaxed the earlier condition that the surety must be a Director with the State or Federal Government and submit the bond of N2 million said the review followed the application by the counsels to the defendants.

He listed the new bail condition to includes; a reasonable surety staying within the jurisdiction of the court for each defendant and must submit his or her password and a bail bond of N500, 000.

The magistrate therefore directed the defendants to report to the at the court at the next adjourn date, February 27, 2024.

Reacting to the rulling, Counsel to the defendants, Barr. Ayiwulu Baba-Ayiwulu said his joy was that the protesters must go home to meet with their love once.

He added that the new bail condition is reasonable enough and expressed optimism that they would be out of the Lafia Custodian Centre before the end of today because a lot of people are willing to stand as their sureties.
