Ifeanyi Ubah Declares One-Term Pledge in Anambra Gubernatorial Bid

Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the current Senator representating Anambra South in the National Assembly and a prominent figure in the All Progressive Congress (APC), has announced his candidacy for the Anambra gubernatorial race in 2025.

While unveiling his electoral agenda on Sunday, Senator Ubah said he is committed to serving just one term in office if elected governor.

Addressing journalists in Nnewi, Senator Ubah stressed the urgency of resolving the state’s leadership challenges. He appealed to the people of Anambra for their mandate, promising transformative governance during his four-year tenure.

The senator’s key proposal involves conducting Local Government Area elections within four months of assuming office, aiming to bolster political engagement at the grassroots and facilitate decentralized development with increased LGA funds.

Senator Ubah, critical of the state’s governance over the past 18 years, assessed it at a mere 20 percent effectiveness. He vowed to introduce an unprecedented 80 percent content, emphasizing a fresh perspective in governance that, according to him, has been absent.

The APC chieftain outlined his vision, emphasizing support for commerce, transforming the health sector into a medical tourism hub, and expediting community development through local government elections.

He urged voters to shift away from supporting candidates with “over-bloated personality and structure” and to instead rally behind individuals with passion and a proven track record.

Confident in his ability to challenge the ruling All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Senator Ubah highlighted his prior success in winning a Senate seat twice under the Young Progressives Party, a minority political group.
He described the faceoff between the Prof. Chukwuma Soludo government and traditional rulers in Anambra following conferment of Chieftaincy title on him as unfortunate and unnecessary.

“I felt bad about it, it is a debt in our traditional institution, I strongly believe that those who championed that did not know what they did. Thank God it has been revered though without apology to me,” he said.

Ubah concluded by expressing his preparedness for the upcoming election, underscoring the consistency of his manifesto since 2013 and his unwavering commitment to instigating positive change in Anambra’s governance landscape.
