Nasarawa earmarks over N40 billion to address Education shortfall this year …Set to tackle insecurity with CCTV Cameras in Lafia, others

NASARAWA State Government Friday announced that the sum of N40. 16 out of the N199, 9 billion would be expended in the education sector this year.

Briefing Journalists at the breakdown of this year’s budget, Commissioner for finance , Budget and Economic Planning, Mrs Munira Abdullahi said the amount represent 20% of the this year’s total budget.

The Commissioner explained that education tops the priority of the state government accounting for the allocation of 20 per cent of its 2024 budget in compliance with UNESCO’s recommendation.

According to the Commissioner. the budget was made up of N113.123 billion as recurrent expenditure and N86.

8 billion for capital expenditure adding that the budget was expected to be funded from the following revenue sources; opening balance of N3.56 billion, statutory revenue allocation of N45 billion.

Others are value added tax N27.50 billion, exchange gain of N7.50 billion, special allocation of N11 billion, refund from NNPC N20 billion and other revenue from FAAC N5.9 billion.

The Commissioner however assured the people of government readiness to implement a transparent budget that would impact on the lives of the people in Nasarawa.

On the spate of insecurity in the state, the commissioner disclosed that government has concluded arrangements to install CCTV cameras in the state Capital and it’s environs to tackle the security situation in the state.
