Insecurity: Police nabs fake Soldier, notorious armed robber, recover AK47 in Nasarawa

The Nasarawa state Police Command, Thursday announced the arrest of one fake army officer, Muhammed Halidu who has been parading himself as a soldier in Nasarawa State.

Also arrested is a notorious armed robber at Fadaman Bauna community of Lafia LGA.

Spokesman of the police command, DSP Ramhan Nansel in a statement on Thursday made available to newsmen in Lafia, said Muhammed Halidu, resident in Karu LGA was arrested on full military camouflage.

According to the PPRO, the fake Soldier was arrested at Awe LGA by two military personnel and handed over to police at the Awe division adding that the suspect claimed to be a soldier attached to 231 Battalion Biu, Borno State.

“Preliminary investigation proved otherwise and we discovered that the suspect was only impersonating. Further investigation had also proved that the suspect has been defrauding unsuspecting members of the public under the guise of securing employment for the intending candidate into the Nigeria Army,”

“The suspect only attempted to join the military but could not make it through and thereafter began impersonating as an officer,” the PPRO added.

The police spokesperson stated further in the statement that the suspected armed robbers was arrested on Wednesday, January 1, 2024 at about 11:30am.

“Acting on a credible information, operatives of the Command’s Anti robbery team on intelligence led Patrol along Fadaman Bauna intercepted three young men suspected to be armed robbers riding on an unregistered Bajaj Motorcycle.

He said on sighting the police, the suspected robber abandoned their motorcycles and took to his heels but were given a hot chase and one Kabiru Yusuf was arrested while two others escaped.

Nansel further said that a search was conducted on him and AK 47 riffle and a motorcycle were recovered as exhibit.
