Muhammad Shehu, the lawmaker representing Fagge federal constituency, has urged the federal government to consider establishing a sports university in Kano. This proposition was put forth during an interactive session with members of the Correspondents’ Chapel, Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kano, on Thursday.

Shehu highlighted the potential benefits of such an institution, emphasizing its role in generating employment opportunities and reducing youth involvement in criminal activities through accessible education and prospects in sports.

The lawmaker specifically suggested repurposing the Sports Institute in Karfi, Kura LGA, for this noble purpose, viewing it as a gesture by the government to contribute to the prosperity of the people of Kano.

Moreover, Shehu revealed his initiative in supporting education, having covered the tuition fees for more than 512 students from his constituency across various tertiary institutions. He stressed that this endeavor aimed to ensure a high-quality education conducive to holistic growth.

In a bid for youth empowerment, Shehu disclosed his sponsorship of cluster tailoring outfits within his constituency, aiming for major contracts. He outlined plans to formalize these outfits by registering them with the Corporate Affairs Commission. This move would enable them to secure contracts for producing uniforms for schools and various military and paramilitary agencies.
