Tinubu Transmits list of 11 nominees for Supreme Court Justices to Senate for Confirmation

President Bola Tinubu has presented a list of 11 nominees for Supreme Court justices to the Nigerian Senate, aiming to fill vacancies within the apex court.

In a statement by the Director of Information of the apex court, Mr Soji Oye, said the recommendation was made at the 104th meeting of the council in Abuja on Wednesday.

The nominations stem from the earlier selection of 22 Appeal Court justices by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC), sent to the National Judicial Council (NJC) on November 19th for elevation to the esteemed Supreme Court.

Recall that on November 19th, 22 justices of the Appeal Court were nominated by the Federal Judicial Service Commission (FJSC) for elevation to the Supreme Court and their names sent to the National Judicial Council (NJC).

Among the eminent jurists proposed for the esteemed positions are Hon. Justice Jummai Hannatu Sankey, OFR; Hon. Justice Chidiebere Nwaoma Uwa; Hon. Justice Chioma Egondu Nwosu-Iheme; Hon. Justice Haruna Simon Tsammani; Hon. Justice Moore Aseimo A. Adumein; and Hon. Justice Obande Festus Ogbuinya.

Additionally, the list includes Hon. Justice Stephen Jonah Adah; Hon. Justice Habeeb Adewale O. Abiru; Hon. Justice Jamilu Yammama Tukur; Hon. Justice Abubakar Sadiq Umar; and Hon. Justice Mohammed Baba Idris, each bringing substantial expertise and experience to the fore.

If cleared by the Senate, the apex court will have the full complement of 21 justices, as mandated by the Constitution.
