Former Akwa Ibom State Governor, Mr. Emmanuel Udom and a high-profile Ibom Air management delegation marked a significant milestone as they landed in Canada for the delivery ceremony of 10 newly procured Airbus A220-300 series airplanes.
Ibom Air, a state-owned airline established in 2019 during Emmanuel’s tenure, fulfilled its commitment made at the 2021 Dubai Airshow to acquire 10 new aircraft from Airbus.
The management team, including Captain Mfon Udom, Managing Director, and Mr. George Uriesi, Chief Operating Officer, joined Emmanuel in inspecting and receiving the initial aircraft at Airbus’ Mirabel facility in Montreal, Canada, on a Friday.
The unveiling event was graced by key Airbus executives, such as CEO Benoit Schultz, Vice-President Daniel Wenninger, Head of Airbus A220 Delivery Center Marc Arpin, and Sales Director Middle-East & Africa Cyrille Picard.
Udom expressed pride in Ibom Air’s position as the first Nigerian airline to welcome the state-of-the-art Airbus A220. He highlighted his vision for the airline’s prominence in West African and African aviation, praising Governor Pastor Umo Eno for continuing the aviation development project.
The Airbus A220-300 is renowned for its advanced technology, exceptional fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort and safety features. Tailored for short and medium-haul flights with a range of up to seven hours (3,450 nautical miles), this addition positions Ibom Air for expanded services across diverse African destinations.
Mr. Udom shared his enthusiasm, emphasizing the transformative impact of the Airbus A220-300 on Ibom Air. He reaffirmed the commitment to providing top-notch airline services by investing in a fleet of highly efficient, brand-new aircraft to support the airline’s growth plans.
