Just in: NABTEB Releases 2023 NBC/NTC Examination Results

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has unveiled the outcomes of the 2023 NBC/NTC examinations, which were conducted across the nation from June 26 to July 25, 2023.

In a recent announcement by NABTEB’s Registrar and Chief Executive, Prof. Ifeoma Isiugo-Abanihe, significant achievements were highlighted.

A total of 39,220 candidates, equating to 73.

19% of all examinees, attained a commendable feat by securing five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics, in the 2023 In-school NBC/NTC examinations.
Furthermore, 49,529 candidates obtained five credits and above, either with or without English Language and Mathematics, marking an impressive 92.
43% success rate.

This performance demonstrates a substantial improvement compared to the 2022 In-school NBC/NTC exams, where 69.73% of candidates achieved five credits and above, including the crucial subjects.

In more detail, 74,346 candidates, equivalent to 88.35% of the participants, managed to secure five credits and above with or without English Language and Mathematics, illustrating the candidates’ well-rounded capabilities.

The number of candidates registered for the 2023 NBC/NTC examinations totaled 54,301, with these exams administered in 1,556 centers across Nigeria and Cote d’Ivoire. This marked a decrease of 38.06% in enrollment compared to the 2022 In-school certificate examinations, which saw 87,668 candidates enrolled.

Prof. Isiugo-Abanihe emphasized the diversity of the 2023 NBC/NTC examinations, with candidates covering 16 Engineering Trades, seven Construction Trades, nine Miscellaneous Trades, four Business Trades, and 17 General Education subjects.

The registrar noted that out of 53,587 candidates who participated, 13,699 were certified as craftsmen, representing 51.93% of the total enrollment, a decrease from 64.41% in the 2022 In-School NBC/NTC examinations.

Despite these positive results, Prof. Isiugo-Abanihe acknowledged the ongoing challenge of examination malpractice on a global scale, emphasizing the need for continued efforts to reduce such occurrences.

In the 2023 examinations, 239 candidates, or 0.45% of all examinees, were involved in malpractice, compared to 300 candidates, or 0.36%, in the 2022 In-school examinations, indicating a slight increase in malpractice cases.

The NABTEB’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations remains resolute, as it explores innovative strategies to curb malpractice and ensure the credibility of its assessments.
