Dr. Olubiyi Olaolu Abidemi, the Chief Medical Director of Ekiti State Specialist Hospital Ikere-Ekiti, has been suspended by the state government due to allegations of gross misconduct.
The State Hospitals Management Board took this drastic step in response to the serious allegations of gross misconduct reported against Dr.
As a result, the suspended CMD has been barred from carrying out his official duties while an investigation is conducted, in accordance with the State Public Service Rules.
Furthermore, the directive from the Ministry stipulates that Dr. Olubiyi Olaolu Abidemi must immediately hand over his responsibilities as CMD of the State Specialist Hospital, Ikere, to Dr. Akinsipe Catherine Iyabo.
The allegations against Dr. Abidemi stem from a recent incident in which he was accused of physically assaulting his wife. Reports suggest that a disagreement between the couple escalated when Dr. Abidemi allegedly demanded his wife take care of his pregnant mistress.
His wife refused this request, leading to a confrontation. During the altercation, Dr. Abidemi is alleged to have threatened his wife’s life and physically assaulted her, including grabbing her neck.
Dr. (Mrs) Olubiyi Adenike, a lecturer at Ekiti State University, Ado-Ekiti, sustained serious injuries to her neck during the incident and is currently receiving treatment at the accident and emergency unit of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Ado-Ekiti.
The victim’s family has called on relevant authorities to intervene in this matter. When contacted, Dr. Olubiyi Olaolu Abidemi declined to comment but purportedly claimed that his wife was pretending despite receiving medical attention.
