Nigeria has lost its bid to host the 2027 African Cup of Nations, AFCON, with Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania appointed joint hosts.

This was disclosed when the Minister of Sports, Senator John Owan Enoh, travelled to Egypt on Tuesday with delegates from the Nigeria Football Federation to seek to host the AFCON in 2027.

Nigeria requested to co- host the event with it’s neighbouring country, the Republic of Benin.

Recall that Nigeria’s only hosting of the AFCON was in 1980 when Christian Chukwu led the team to victory in front of enthusiastic home fans, including former President Shehu Shagari.
