Benue NUP Suspends Planned Strike Action

Leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Benue State chapter has disclosed that it has put off it’s earlier intention to embark on a peaceful protest to press on government to clear backlog of arrears owed the senior citizens.


Leadership of the union which had planned for a protest that was scheduled to hold this week has made a u-turn calling on it’s members not to come out for a protest but wait for further directives.

Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners, NUP, Benue State chapter comrade Michael Vembe who made the disclosure in a statement confirmed that government has commenced negotiations with officials of the Union, adding that welfare of the senior citizens is on top priority of discussions.

Comrade Vembe whose statement was signed by Public Relations Officer of NUP Benue branch comrade Nick Abe, made available to journalists in Makurdi, expressed satisfaction with the on going negotiations.
The Benue NUP boss who called on all pensioners in the state to remain calm, promised that all retirees in the state would be adequately briefed about outcome of negotiations appropriately.
