Just in Adeleke wins at supreme court. **** Just Buhari calls support for Adeleke in Osun

The Supreme Court Tuesday in Abuja confirmed Governor Ademola Adeleke winner of the July 16 governorship election in Osun State.

The Supreme Court sitting affirmed the election of Ademola Adeleke of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, as the Governor of Osun State.

The landmark judgement followed an earlier decision by a three-member panel of the appellate court led by Mohammed Shuaibu, which affirmed Adeleke’s victory and nullified the judgement of the election petition tribunal.

The election petition tribunal had earlier in January this year nullified the governor’s victory.

It would be recalled that Adegboyega Oyetola, the immediate past governor of the Osun, had filed a petition challenging Adeleke’s victory.

The Apex Court says the Appellate court was right in upturning the tribunal decision which upheld the petition of Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, APC and gave him the victory

Meanwhile, President Muhammadu Buhari Buhari has urged the citizens and residents of the State to give the government of Senator Ademola Adeleke the needed support to ensure that programmes, policies, plans and aspirations designed to make the state develop and succeed.B

Buhari whose statement was contained in a release issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Chief Femi Adesina, in Abuja,i sad he recognized the Supreme Court’s verdict on the July 16, 2022 governorship election in the state, as well the important role of the judiciary in deepening rule of law and democracy

According to the statement, “With the final decision by the Court, the President reminds the political class and their supporters that the main task at hand is to make the people feel the impact of good governance, where a prosperous, peaceful and stable Osun is guaranteed.

“He, therefore, urges the citizens and residents of the State, particularly her notable sons and daughters, to give the government of Senator Ademola Adeleke all the support it needs to ensure that programmes, policies, plans and aspirations fashioned to make individuals and businesses flourish succeed.

President Buhari thanked the people of Osun for contributing immensely to the development of the nation, particularly through the State’s rich cultural heritage, the several historic sites and tourist attractions, including the Osun-Osogbo Sacred Grove, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
