Experts, Artists To Storm Enugu As NGA Holds 7th National Symposium On Nigerian Art

The National Gallery of Art (NGA), has said that it has concluded all necessary arrangements for the 7th National Symposium on Nigerian Art, saying that Art scholars and experts in the creative industry, as well as Artist are to brainstorm on the way forward.

The event which will take place in the coal City of Enugu, South East Nigeria is in collaboration with the Institute of Management and Technology (IMT) Enugu.

According to a statement released by the organisers, the 2023 edition of the national symposium is scheduled to take place on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the
International Conference Centre, IMT, Enugu.

The statement further disclosed that “this programme is designed to bring Artists and Art scholars to present and discuss well researched papers on various aspects of Nigerian Visual Art.

It is also expected to serve as an avenue for “exchanging ideas, appraisals and scholarly presentations by distinguished cultural administrators, experienced and renowned art scholars for the growth and development of modern Nigerian art.”

The theme of this year’s event according to the statement is: “Rethinking Professionalism in Visual Arts for Enhanced Cultural and Economic Performance.”

Expected to deliver a position paper on the theme of the symposium bud to commence at 11: am Nigerian time is Dr. Wole Oloidi, an Associate Professor in the Department of Visual Art and Design, Cross River State University of Technology, Calabar.
