NAFDAC Approves Malaria R21 Vaccine for use

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) says the agency has approved the provisional use of the R21 malaria vaccine.

The Director General of the Agency Professor Mojisola Adeyeye stated this while briefing newsmen in Abuja.

The R21 Malaria vaccine is an adjuvanted protein vaccine presented as a sterile solution.

A dose which is 0.5ml is composed of R21 Malaria antigen ready-to-use liquid formulation for intramuscular injection.

Professor Adeyeye confirmed that the vaccine has passed through the rigorous test in line with global standards, and the outcome of the tests was satisfactory, before the approval for use

Mojisola Adeyeye, noted that the approval of the R21 malaria vaccine makes Nigeria the second country in the world to approve its use after Ghana.

She told Newsmen that Nigeria expects to get at least 100,000 doses of the new vaccine in donations before the market authorisation.
