The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC has appealed to travelers to avoid night journeys, especially during the Yuletide, due to the high volume of vehicular movement.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Capital Territory, FRSC, Mr.

Muta’a Chorie, while addressing newsmen in Abuja on the commencement of a 30-day Special Operation, said most recent fatal accidents in the territory occurred at night.

Mr. Chorie stated that the twenty Unit Commands in the FCT commenced inter-joint operations four days earlier to ensure a smooth takeoff of the end-of-year nationwide Special Operations.

According to the Sector Commander, the FRSC is working with the FCT Command of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure the safety of personnel deployed for late-night patrols.

He noted that not less than two thousand regular and special marshals have been deployed to ensure the free flow of traffic in the six area councils, while additional logistics have been mobilized to some identified high-volume traffic corridors.

“We have deployed over 2,000 regular and special marshals, 44 patrol vehicles, five tow trucks, and 12 ambulances for the end-of-year special operations”.

He further explained that road camps have been activated to provide personnel with resting points during emergencies, adding that trained community volunteers are also on standby to provide prompt support during accidents.

The FCT FRSC boss appealed to motorists to drive with caution, especially on routes where road construction is ongoing, such as the Bwari road noting that additional tow trucks and personnel have been deployed for the prompt removal of broken-down vehicles.

He assured that no traffic offender would go unpunished, as mobile courts would sit at five locations across the territory to prosecute violators.

He passionately urged motorists to obey traffic rules and avoid overloading, speeding, and dangerous driving, emphasizing that the Corps is ready to ensure the safety of all road users during the Yuletide season.
