FRSC To Prosecute Drivers Involved In Fatal Road Crashes

The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC says it will henceforth withdraw the licenses and prosecute any driver or fleet operator involved in fatal road crashes.

The FRSC Corps Marshal, Mallam Shehu Mohammed, issued the warning in Abuja during the annual Safety Managers’ Retreat, with the theme “Driver Management: Enhancing Safety Through Technology.

Mallam Shehu Mohammed who stated that the Corps recognizes the critical role fleet operators play in achieving zero road accidents in the country appealed to them to exercise caution in the recruitment of drivers, as they are crucial to the overall safety and productivity of their operations.

According to him, it is essential to prioritize the well-being of drivers and enhance their safety by developing robust safety policies and organizing training and retraining programs to improve their skills.

The FRSC Boss emphasized the need for fleet operators to embrace technology to monitor driver’s efficiency, analyze their behavior, and track vehicles while on transit.

In a remark, the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, noted that the FRSC management has introduced new strategies to ensure effective traffic management across the country.

Represented by the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 7, Benneth Igwe, the Inspector General said the police would continue to complement the FRSC in curbing crimes and addressing the excesses of motorists on the roads.

Similarly, the representative of the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, Mrs. Olubunmi Otti, urged fleet operators to always protect passengers’ rights and ensure they receive value for their money.

Over two thousand safety managers from various fleet operators attended the retreat, which is aimed at promoting best practices in fleet management, particularly in the dynamic road transport sector of Nigeria’s economy.
