Collapsed mining site kills 13 in Plateau state

A mining site located in Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau State, has reportedly collapsed, killing at least 13 people.

According to reports most of the affected victims were between the ages of 18 and 30.

The ugly development which took place on Monday night, was confirmed by the chairman of Bassa LGC, Dr Joshua Riti, while speaking with newsmen in Jos, Tuesday.

He told newsmen that six of the deceased are from Kissaloi community in Bassa LGA, adding that he had led a delegation to pay a condolence visit on the family.

He also said that he is yet to get the report of the casualty figure in the other villages.”

Riti, who expressed sadness over the deaths, said the collapsed mining site is located at the boundaries between Bassa, Jos South and Jos North LGAs.

He described the situation as unfortunate insisting that the people went out in search of a means of livelihood when they met their untimely death.

“They went out to put their energies to good use to sustain and meet up with the current economic hardship in the country but met their untimely death.
