The Deputy Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency Comrade Joel Salifu, has counseled the Council Chairmen, Vice Chairpersons, and the legislative council leaders in the state to embody humility and adopt an open-door policy in the execution of their duties.

Deputy Governor Joel Salifu gave the advice during a meeting with the local government Chairmen, vice chairpersons, and legislative council leaders of Kogi East at his residence in Ejule, Ofu Local Government Area.

He urged them to embrace an open-door policy and actively engage with the grassroots to transform the negative perceptions of the past, fostering an inclusive administration.

He said the purpose of the meeting was to extend congratulations to the local government leaders for their successful election and offer guidance on their conduct in fulfilling their constitutional responsibilities.

He emphasized the importance of involving the people in all their policies and programs.

The Deputy Governor urged the officials to mirror the humility demonstrated by the governor and maintain a connection with the grassroots to potentially establish a unified political landscape in Kogi. He encouraged them to convene meetings with grassroots constituents and demonstrate respect for party leaders.

He emphasized that the local government leaders should uphold the oath of secrecy taken during their inauguration to uphold peace and harmony within the council. As the 2027 elections approach, he expressed optimism that the party in the region would achieve unprecedented success, indicating that the meeting would be held periodically to evaluate the leaders’ progress.

However, Deputy Governor Joel Salifu issued a stern warning against establishing any alternative structure outside of the existing framework led by Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, stating that the governor is the leader of the state.

Earlier, the Kogi East Zonal Chairman of the APC, Hon. Mikhail Suleiman Mohammed, urged the elected council leaders to welcome and accommodate new or former members who wish to rejoin the All Progressives Congress. He stressed the necessity of securing victory in the upcoming election in Kogi East and advised against Diaspora politicians forming a separate party, advocating instead for inclusivity within the party.
