COSROPIN Organizes Golf Tournament To Commemorate UN Int’l Day Of Older Persons
As part of activities to mark this year’s United Nations International Day of Older Persons, the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons In Nigeria, COSROPIN, has organized a golf tournament tagged “Veteran Kitty” for older persons in the Federal Capital Territory.
The golf tournament which was for people who are sixty years and above was held at TYB Golf Resort and Country Club, Abuja.
Speaking during the tournament, the President of COSROPIN, Senator Eze Ajoku, OFR, said the essence of the tournament was to promote exercise among older persons to enhance healthy living.
“Today we’re reaching this class of Nigerians who are also older persons, the elite class who play golf and we are here with the older persons among them so that the older persons can always exercise, feel young and interact with one another ” He stated.
In his words “Those who have won will go home with prizes and on the 29th of this month, we are going to play football between the old people and other group of people and on the 5th of November, we are going to have a hang out for our rural communities”.
According to him, COSROPIN is doing all these in other to promote the good health of older persons, to create interaction for them and networking towards ensuring that old people are not abandoned and left alone.
“Our Organization is standing for the welfare of older persons and also fighting for their rights and their privileges” Senator Ajoku added.
In a remark, a former Governor of Kogi State, Captain Idris Wada who participated in the game commended COSROPIN for the golf tournament.
Captain Wada stressed the need for Federal Government’s support to COSROPIN to further promote the welfare of older persons in the country.
Other participants described the golf tournament as a welcomed development in commemorating the 2024 United Nations International Day of Older Persons.
Highlight of the golf tournament was presentation of prizes to winners.
