Ahead of the December 4, 2024 election of Nigerian Union of Journalists, FCT Council, a stakeholder, Dr Lemmy Ughebe, Tuesday, counseled journalists supporting the candidature of Grace Ike to promote unity of Abuja NUJ, and remain focused.

Ughebe made the call following the recent development in the process of nominating members of the Screening Committee that led to an uproar last week Saturday and concluded at yesterday’s emergency Congress.

He said supporters should not allow anything that would jeopardize the chances of Grace Ike based on her pedigree and track record heading towards a paradigm shift and changing the order that have been entrenched in running the affairs of the Council over the years.

Meanwhile, he commended the resilience and determination displayed to stand with Grace Ike amidst the maneuvering by some disgruntled and unscrupulous elements in the Council that wanted to manipulate the electoral process.

He said: “Though challenges remain, the composition of the Credentials Committee—
comprised of men and women of integrity who will not compromise the will of the electorate—marks a significant step forward for Amazing Grace Ike on her journey towards victory.

“This progress reflects the strong desire of Abuja journalists to speak with One Voice and usher in a New Era. However, we must temper our confidence with humility, recognising that the race is not yet won and every action matters in securing success.

“While we trust in the quality of our candidate, it is essential that we avoid words or actions that could alienate potential supporters. Instead, let us remain focused on
building bridges and rallying more people behind the vision we share. Now is the time to speak thoughtfully, knowing that even those initially opposed can be won over. For those still grappling with PTSD as a result of disappointment, we should extend grace and allow them space to heal, should they wish to.

“As we prepare for the elections on 4 December 2024, we must stay focused and act with purpose, mindful that unity and careful strategy will guide us to our goal.”

He also added and expressed optimism that, “Together, with One Voice, we stand on the brink of a New Era—stronger, wiser, and ready to achieve our collective aspirations.

“The Nigeria Union of Journalists, FCT Council, will rise again—better, stronger, and united.”
