COSROPIN Embarks On Sight Seeing For Older Persons In FCT

As part of activities to commemorate this year’s United Nations International Day of Older Persons, the Coalition of Societies for the Rights of Older Persons In Nigeria, COSROPIN, has embarked on sight seeing for older persons in the Federal Capital Territory.

This includes train and bus rides across Abuja Metropolis.

Speaking with newsmen at the end of sight seeing in Abuja, the President of COSROPIN, Senator Eze Ajoku, OFR, who said the train and bus rides was in partnership with the Social Development Secretariat of the Federal Capital Territory Administration stated that the move was to among other things reduce depression and isolation among older persons in the FCT.

“In this type of relax and playful environment, their blood pressure will come back to normal that’s why we’re doing this to ensure that older persons are celebrated because COSROPIN stands for the rights and privileges of of older persons and in that process, we’re concern about their care, welfare and their mental health and being out here today is good for them ” He said.

In his words “Right now in Zuma Rock Resort , we have older persons from Mabuchi Community, IDP Camp in Area 1 and from other different communities in the FCT who are on individual basis been participating in some of our activities”.

According to him, COSROPIN has planned four different activities to commemorate this year’s United Nations International Day of Older Persons begining from today’s train and bus rides while on the 24th of this month, there will be golf tournament for Veterans called golf kitty meant for people who are sixty and above for men while fifty and above is for women.

“After that, we’re going to have football match for older persons on the 26th of this month and we’ll cap it up on the 5th of November with what we called Older Persons Hangout where we do health checks, we’ll dance, exercise, play games and other varieties to make the older persons feel renewed again and to further give them a sense of belonging in the society” Senator Ajoku explained.

While expressing concern over lack of support from the Federal Government to COSROPIN, Senator Eze Ajoku said the Organization would continue to do its best towards making life more meaningful to older persons in the country.

“We’re trying our best to ensure that older persons are cared for, older persons are in good hands and we’re able to encourage them not to go through depression, loneliness and all that ” He added
