Apex Igbo Socio-cultural Organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Worldwide has asked the Department of state service (DSS) to arrest those calling for Interim Government in the country.

Ohanaeze said the body would ensure that those unpatriotic elements of destruction did not derail the nation’s democracy and the smooth transition of power from President Muhammadu Buhari to President-Elect Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In a statement by Ohanaeze Secretary-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro on Monday, stated that those behind the call for the interim Government are only trying to plunge the country into avoidable political crises and make the Igbo as scapegoats Nigerians witnessed in 1993.

“Ndigbo will participate fully in all pre-inauguration and swearing-in ceremonies of the President-Elect Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu on May 29th, 2023 and caution all of those who are working behind the scenes for the enthronement of an illegitimate interim government to use the courts to vent their resentments and grievances

“We are satisfied that Atiku and Peter Obi had explored the legal options in other to recover the mandates and challenging the outcomes of 2023 Presidential elections in court is better than restraining a smooth transition of Power in 29th May 2023, as we will not allow unpatriotic monsters to truncate our hard-earned democracy.

According to the statement, Ndigbo condemns the call for the establishment of an interim Government but insists that the President-Elect should be sworn in 29th May 2023.

“Ndigbo is endangered species in Nigeria and never again will Igbos be used as sacrificial lambs as we were used in 1993 during the Abiola saga, where a lot of Igbos were bullied, maimed, killed and their properties looted, the proponents of an interim Government are already setting the stage through systematic burning of Igbo populated markets in Lagos ( President-Elect’s State) and Borno ( Vice President-Elect’s State) and promotion of Hate campaigns against the Igbo, these are castles built on quicksands and Igbos are wiser and sophisticated now and we will continue to support the President-Elect, Bola Tinubu’s government.

This is coming on the heels of rising
proliferation of illegal estates in the territory, particularly within the Federal Capital City.

The FCTA officials mainly from the Department of Development Control accompanied security operatives stormed and pulled down perimeter fencing and few buildings at different stage of construction at the sites of White City Estate, City Palace Estate Prime Ville near the Idu Train Station.

Speaking during the exercise, Director, Development Control Department, TPL Mukhtar Galadima, said the removal was part of the measures to check instances of people just coming to parcel land, and allocate it to themselves without recourse to the relevant authorities of the government.

Galadima noted that most of them are fenced while some of them are about excavating, but their advertisement has gone round the globe, adding that ” the FCT Administration is seriously committed to see that we do away with this kind of illegality”.

He explained that the Department is discussing with the Department of Urban and Regional Planning, which is the custodian of the Abuja Master plan, to hasten and conclude the process of design of the phase IV of the Federal Capital City (FCC), which the affected area is part of it.

“Today, we are at Idu Train Station, where we have seen instances of people just coming to parcel land, and allocate it to themselves without recourse to the relevant authorities of the government, that is why we have to make good our promises that we are going to tackle the menace.

“The estates are uncountable, because they just parcel and fence them. Everywhere have been fenced, that is why we had to nip it at the bud. And the longest marking here was done in 2018 or 2019, and since then, the developer has not continue to develop.

“It is part of the residential area that would support the Idu industrial area, so whatever people are doing now it is just illegality.

“And we have been creating awareness on why people should not just buy land on social media as they should go to the right authority to get things right. The FCT Administration is serious committed to see that we do away with this kind of illegality”, he stressed.

He however, warned that it is just the begining of the removal exercise, as they are returning back tomorrow to continue with adequate reinforcement and heavy duty equipment to do the work.
