NNPCL GMD Mele Kyari Speaks Out on Daughter’s Death

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, has publicly addressed the tragic loss of his 25-year-old daughter, Fatima, who passed away on Friday, October 12, 2024.

In an emotional statement posted on his verified X account on Tuesday, Kyari reflected on the deep sorrow caused by Fatima’s death.

He acknowledged the profound emotional impact she had on those who knew her, despite her physical challenges, and recognized her passing as part of divine destiny.

Kyari’s heartfelt message emphasized how his daughter’s passing revealed the depth of her connections with many people, something he only fully grasped after her death.

He noted how the tragedy brought together people from different walks of life, highlighting the shared sense of empathy and compassion that transcends social barriers.

He expressed gratitude to the leaders, family, friends, colleagues, teachers, and numerous well-wishers who have offered prayers for Fatima and provided comfort to his family during their time of grief.

In his statement, Kyari wrote: “My daughter Fatima departed at her appointed time, and I look forward to meeting her in Jannah by Allah’s grace. While the loss is great by all measures, we remain grateful to God for all His mercies. I didn’t know the depth of her connections with many people and what she meant to them.

“Despite her physical challenges, she was able to touch hearts in very soothing ways, including mine. Above all, her demise brought many people together and demonstrated that we all can care for others irrespective of our social circumstances.

“I profoundly thank our leaders, family members, friends, associates, colleagues, our teachers, and the countless unmentioned who joined us to pray for the repose of her soul and for consoling us.”

“Fatima’s death has left a significant void in the lives of those who knew her, but her memory lives on through the many hearts she touched during her lifetime”, he added.
