The Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Senate Matters commends President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for the timely and strategic nomination of Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman as the new Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).

The successful screening of Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman by the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs, conducted today, Tuesday, October 8, 2024, marks a critical step towards alleviating the challenges faced by Nigerian pilgrims and ensuring that NAHCON continues to efficiently fulfill its mandate of coordinating smooth and seamless Hajj operations.

This nomination is a testament to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s unwavering commitment to his Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in bringing relief to the Muslim faithful by enhancing the welfare and services provided to Nigerian pilgrims.

By nominating Professor Saleh Usman, an experienced scholar and administrator, the President has demonstrated his dedication to reducing the hardships often encountered by Nigerian pilgrims during Hajj operations and ensuring that their religious rites are performed with ease and dignity.

This appointment will greatly benefit not only Nigerian pilgrims but also the entire nation, as it promises a more organized and coordinated pilgrimage experience.

This also underscores President Tinubu’s vision for a more efficient system that prioritizes the welfare of the people.

I also commend the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs for its thorough and diligent screening process, which exemplifies the strong and productive collaboration between the Executive and the Legislature.

This synergy ensures that key appointments, such as this one, are subjected to the highest levels of scrutiny and accountability, leading to decisions that serve the best interests of the nation.

While we anticipate his confirmation by the Senate following the committee’s report, I look forward to witnessing the positive impact of Professor Abdullahi Saleh Usman’s leadership on NAHCON and the advancement of Nigeria’s Hajj operations.
